5 Ways that FitTrack helps you
with the Ketogenic Diet

What is it?

The ketogenic diet is a low carb, high fat diet. It shares many similarities to the Atkins or low carb diets.

The goal is limiting your carb intake, and replacing it with fats. This puts your body in a metabolic state called “ketosis”. When this happens, your body will become incredibly efficient in burning fat for energy. Many people use this diet to lose weight.

How does it work?

The metabolic state of ketosis occurs when you significantly reduce your consumption of carbohydrates, and limit your body’s access to glucose (sugar). Glucose is typically the main source of energy for your cells.

It is also important to moderate your protein intake. Protein can be converted into glucose, when you consume it in high amounts.

When the body can’t rely anymore on carbs as its source of energy, it must switch to alternative sources. It will burn fat for its energy instead.

The process of getting into “ketosis” might require some time. However, once you are into ketosis, many people appreciate that this diet/lifestyle doesn’t give you a feeling of being hungry all the time.

Know what’s changing in your body

The ketogenic diet is structured in such a way that it puts your body in a state that it’s not used to. You will note that your body feels and behaves differently when you are in ketosis. FitTrack enables you to closely monitor your most vital body metrics in real time. It will tell you if you are on the right track for reaching your goal, but - maybe even more importantly - it will tell you if you are NOT on the right track, or even might be in a dangerous situation for your health and are at risk of developing a chronic disease.

    Lose the RIGHT weight

    Lose the RIGHT weight

If losing weight is your goal, it’s great to see the number drop on a scale. However, are you losing the RIGHT weight, that gives you long lasting results? Your total weight consists of fat, muscle, water and bone mass. As with any diet, there is a chance with the keto diet that you are actually losing muscle mass, instead of fat mass. The FitTrack Dara scale gives you easy to understand charts, so you know exactly whether you are losing fat or muscle or water mass.

    Prevent health issues

That muscles require protein for maintenance you, most likely, know already. But do you also know that your cells require protein to function properly? The cells in your body are responsible for the structure, function and regulation of the body’s tissues and organs. FitTrack allows you to monitor your protein levels closely, so that you can always check whether you might run into health issues in the near future.

Keto is all about metabolism. Do you know the state of your metabolism?

Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the amount of calories that your body needs when it's in rest mode. As BMR is the minimal amount of calories needed for your body, it's extremely important to not eat less than this amount under any circumstances. Now, ketogenic might actually affect your BMR, as your body needs to work harder than it used to find alternative energy sources. We therefore recommend paying close attention to how your BMR develops. A simple way to keep track of your BMR is by looking in our App. Everything is documented there each time you weigh yourself.
